Is DLSS Good? The Pros and Cons of NVIDIA’s AI Upscaling

With the rise of DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), many gamers are asking: Is DLSS good? Should you use it in your games? Let’s break it down and see if DLSS is worth enabling on your PC or console.

Is DLSS Good?

What Makes DLSS Good?

1. Higher Frame Rates

DLSS boosts FPS (frames per second) without making the game look blurry. This means smoother gameplay even on high settings.

2. Better Performance on Weaker Hardware

If you have a mid-range GPU (like an RTX 2060 or 3060), enabling DLSS can make games run like high-end PCs without buying an expensive upgrade.

3. AI-Powered Upscaling

DLSS renders games at a lower resolution and then uses AI to upscale them. The result? Similar visual quality but with less GPU load.

4. Supports 4K and 8K Gaming

Want to play games in 4K or even 8K but don’t have an ultra-powerful GPU? DLSS makes it possible while keeping performance smooth.

5. Keeps Ray Tracing Playable

Ray tracing can destroy FPS in games like Cyberpunk 2077. DLSS helps by recovering lost performance, so you can enjoy both stunning graphics and smooth gameplay.

What Are the Downsides of DLSS?

1. Only for NVIDIA RTX GPUs

DLSS only works on NVIDIA RTX GPUs (starting from RTX 20 series). If you have an older GTX card or an AMD GPU, DLSS is not available.

2. Not All Games Support It

While many AAA games support DLSS, some older or indie games don’t have DLSS support yet. Always check if your favorite game includes it.

3. Some Visual Artifacts

Early versions of DLSS had blurry textures and ghosting issues. However, DLSS 2.0 and 3.0 have improved a lot, making it much better now.

4. DLSS 3 Requires a High-End GPU

The newest DLSS 3 (with frame generation) only works on RTX 40 series cards. If you have an RTX 30 series or lower, you can’t use the latest features.

Should You Use DLSS?

If you have an NVIDIA RTX GPU and your game supports DLSS, YES! It’s one of the best ways to get higher FPS without losing quality.

However, if you have an AMD GPU or play older games, DLSS won’t help you—you might need to look at AMD FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) as an alternative.

Final Verdict: Is DLSS Good?

Yes, DLSS is great if you want higher FPS, smooth gameplay, and better visuals—especially in demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Red Dead Redemption 2.

🚫 But it’s not for everyone—if you don’t have an RTX card or your game doesn’t support it, you won’t benefit from it.
